The Purpose Of The Law To Those Whom Don't Know God

The Law of God has many purposes but perhaps the most important purpose to man is the revelation of the attributes of God Himself, in other words, the Law reveals God to man.

The Law as seen by many are the Ten Commandments, however, the Law is much more than just ten commandments.  Some have counted around four hundred ninety, but I personally think it's in the thousands.  For now lets just deal with the Ten.

No man has ever kept the whole law except one (Jesus Christ).  No matter how hard you try you have broken some if not all of just the first ten.  In fact I would be willing to bet that nobody can keep just the ten in the time frame of just one week;  it is against the nature of man to do so.  How many can say that they have never lied?  Never stolen?  Always loved the Lord thy God with all their heart and with all their soul?  I have only mentioned three and already ALL of us have failed.  The Lord says in James:2:10: For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

In other words if we have broken just one of God's Laws then it's the same as if we had broken them all.  Therefore we have a problem, a big problem!  We are all lawbreakers in the sight of God.  The Bible, God's Word, calls this sin.  1John:3:4: Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.  So sin is the transgression of the Law and Romans:3:23: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God  ALL of us have sinned!  Romans:6:23: For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.  The payment for our sins is death in hell, that is the judgment if God.

So what is the purpose of the Law to the unsaved?  Galatians:3:24: Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.  Let me explain how the Law is our schoolmaster, schoolmaster, of course, means teacher.  The Law teaches us that, we are all sinners, we are under the wrath (judgment of God), we cannot keep the Law, and there must be another way to heaven because if not then NO ONE will get there.

Well, you are right!  There is another way, and God Himself provided that way.  The reason that Jesus Christ came to earth was to die on the cross to pay for your sins so that you could get to heaven.  Either you can pay for your sins in Hell, or Jesus can pay for your sins and you can go to heaven.

John:3:16: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

This is what the atonement (payment) is all about, God giving us life who had no life, a free gift for eternity.  Ephesians:2:8-9: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Once you understand the purpose of the Law, which is to reveal to you God's provision for your salvation,  Galatians:3:25: But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.  Then you are no longer judged under the Law.  Romans:10:4: For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

Therefore, the Law shows you what God considers righteousness (what is right), and shows you that you are not righteous, and simply that you need God!

This leads you to seek out God and ultimately understand God's real plan for the salvation of man.  God loves you!  He loves you so much that He gave His only son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to save you from your sins.  Will you ignore this provision and die in Hell, or will you ask God to forgive you of your sins, and accept God's gift of salvation by faith and go to be with God in Heaven?

You can do that right now, you don't need a priest, or a preacher, or anyone!  Just wherever you are close your eyes and pray to God.  You might say Lord, I know that I'm a sinner, and I know that you have made provision to save me, please save me now!  Give me the faith to believe to salvation.

If you called upon the Lord to save you with all your heart, then He did.  He Says Romans:10:13: For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.  This is God's promise to you.

There are many people who have many "words they want you to repeat" for them to consider you saved, but God doesn't need fancy words, He looks into your heart, and if you sincerely asked Him to save you regardless of which words you spoke or thought (if you prayed silently), He did save you!

Many churches will try to take advantage of your newness in the faith to try to bring you back in to the bondage;  some claim you can lose your salvation, some say that if you don't keep the law then you will go to hell, but that is not true!  They only wish to control you, I want you to know that you are free!  The Lord said John:8:36: If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.  Don't let anyone control you regardless of how many certificates on their wall or what their position in the church is.

Once you are saved, instantly the Lord places His Holy Spirit in your heart.  The Holy Spirit will show you all that the Lord has for you, He will lead you and guide you, and most of all seal you until the day of redemption (you go to heaven).  Ephesians:1:13: In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise  Ephesians:4:30:  And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

Though you life may not be perfect God will never take back His salvation, nor can you lose it in any way even if you wanted to.  It is not you who keeps your salvation, but God.  And God Bless you!
