The Voice of Sanity

Disillusionment is the most destructive force in the Church today.  It occurs when one has a firm belief that is based upon something other than the Word of God, or in some cases, when that belief is based upon misinterpreting the Word of God.

The Holy Spirit, which is the Spirit of truth, wants to reveal to one truth. Disillusionment occurs when one denies the truth when it is revealed to them.  Example: One believes that God heals everyone who is saved. One believes one is saved.  One gets sick and God doesn't heal them. The disillusioned person will either deny that God has not healed them, or lose all faith in God.

In fact, God doesn't heal everyone, and the Holy Spirit might just be trying to reveal this to you.  Those whom have their feet on the ground will recognize that in this particular area that they need to ask God to let them personally know the truth about this matter.  Once their heart is open to accept the truth something miraculous happens ... it's called "Spiritual Growth."

One of the most misunderstood concepts of life has to do with salvation itself, the relationship that a man has with God.  Regardless of what you might have been taught ALL men have a relationship with God.  Some have a very bad one and others a very good one.

I think we all are familiar with grading on a curve.  But most of us haven't really thought of the true meaning of grading on a curve is.  What it does is to compare your knowledge with the knowledge of the group.  This may sound good but it denies absolute truth.

For instance, if one were in bomb disposal school, and being graded on the curve meant one was at the top of their class but couldn't diffuse a bomb ... well, you see the problem.  This coincides with it's sister concept that since I am no worse than anyone else (I haven't killed anyone) then I won't be sent to hell.

The real truth is that in order to get to heaven we have to be absolutely perfect.  And since we are ALL not perfect, then we are under God's judgment and are headed to hell.  That is the bad news and defines our default relationship with God.  Romans 3:23, 6:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; For the wages of sin is death; ...

Now for the good news.  God saw our condition and knew we were without hope.  He is a Holy God and couldn't just forget our sin, but He had a plan.  The plan was simple.  He needed to punish someone in our place, someone to take on all our sins, someone to die in our place.  That person would have to be someone very special indeed.

It had to be someone that had no sin themselves, someone who would be perfect, but their was no one born of a woman who was perfect, so He sent His Son in the form of a man we know as the Jesus Christ.  He lived a sinless life, and died on the cross to pay for our sins to set us free.  John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Do you see?  For God so loved ME, that He gave His only begotten son, that ME believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.  This promise is to ME, and to you as well.  Salvation is a gift of God accepted by faith.  Ephesians 2:8-9 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."

I cannot boast about receiving it because I didn't do anything to get it, all I did was to accept it by faith.  It says not of works lest any man boast.  This is a completed condition, saved, not getting saved, not saved until you sin again, but saved forever.  Everlasting life: not temporary life.

Once you accept God's gift by faith He sends His Holy Spirit to live inside of you.  His Spirit seals you so that you are saved forever, and He teaches you and helps you to grow in the faith, knowledge and understanding of God Himself.  Your relationship has changed forever;  you are no longer the enemy of God but are treated as His son.

Won't you change your relationship today?  Religions want to control you, but God wants to set you free.  Simply ask Him to save you and He will, He promises!  Acts 2:21 ..whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.  Right where you are, just ask Him and He saves you forever.

You will never be good enough to get to heaven, but once you accept Jesus Christ as your savior, when God looks at you He sees the righteousness of Jesus Christ ... perfection.

Serving God

Serving God is one of the most poorly explained aspects of Christian life the newly saved must deal with.  The main reason being that many older Christians didn't understand it when they became Christians, and though they now live it, they have trouble articulating it in such a way that is easily understood.

To begin with we must understand more completely certain aspects of salvation.  A drunk might say I'll come to Christ once I quit drinking, and a thief, once I quit stealing, or smoking, or sewing my wild oats or whatever vices one might have in their lives.  The real truth is that drinking, stealing, smoking, and / or any other vice you might have doesn't send one to hell.  It is failing to trust in the payment that Christ made on the cross that sends one to hell, the complete rejection of God's mercy.

So, it is not your works that get you saved at all, it is all God's mercy.  And it is not your works that pleases God with respect to service.

When one is saved then God seals them with His Holy spirit.  Ephesians 1:13, 4:30 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, / whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.  This Spirit has the job of teaching you more about God. Remember you just became a Christian, and you know very little about God.  That is one reason it is called being born again.  It is a Spiritual birth and that part of you needs to grow just like an infant grows, one little step at a time.

The goal of the Holy Spirit is to make you into the image of the Lord Jesus Christ.  Just like your human child will emulate your actions, God, who is perfect, wants you to be perfect and be a carbon copy of Him... to emulate His Son the Lord Jesus;  to have the same sense of right and wrong, to have the same sense of judgment and mercy;  to be His representative here on this earth to others.  Romans 8:28-9 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose  [Believers].  For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

The Holy Spirit little by little will remove from you things in your life that are not pleasing to God.  Some Christians will tell you that you must stop drinking now that you are a Christian.  Let me say this, God works from the inside out, not from the outside in.  He will remove from you the desire to drink.  This is the result of salvation, the work of the Holy Spirit in your life.

You cannot in your own power, and many Christians have tried, stop any action like drinking or smoking or any strong vice.  It takes your reliance on the Lord to unleash the power of His Spirit within you in order to change these habits and remove them from your life.

Many will tell you to rely upon self, but this is directly opposed to God.  You depend upon Him for salvation, and you depend upon Him for service.  You are the beneficiary in salvation, and in service.  Your job is to learn to trust God more and more and the Holy Spirit will help you in that regard.  But it doesn't all happen at once.

One might continue certain habits for sometime because the Holy Spirit works on each of us as unique individuals.  Consider the actions of one carving a figure out of ice.  When asked how one were to achieve his goal the simple reply is, I just cut out anything that doesn't look like the figure.  This is how God works.  His Spirit simply changes things in your habits ... eventually everything that doesn't look like the Lord Jesus Christ.

For one, it might be gossip, another drinking, and another meddling, each dealt with as the Christian grows.  So our "service" to God is our dependence upon Him and response to His love.  It is not trying to change everything in our lives in an instant and in our own power or volunteering to do things for our church.

The process takes a lifetime.  Another matter of confusion is the feelings of guilt when one sins after being saved.  For many they now think they have lost their salvation, but let me assure you that, even though some teach this, it is not true.  Your position in Christ is safe and secure, remember the seal of God is living inside you and will not leave you before you are in God's presence.

This is actually the work of the Holy Spirit in your life.  He is letting you know what is good and bad, right and wrong.  This is where you need to respond to Him in recognizing the right from the wrong. This is where Spiritual growth starts and hopefully continues.  God in revealing this to you wants you to understand that the right way is the best for you as an individual.

For instance God said  thou shalt not bear false witness ...  so once your saved you lie and the Holy Spirit makes you feel guilty, but He doesn't stop there, He shows you the results of your lie.  He reveals to you that you lose credibility in the eyes of others when you lie, and all the other negative aspects of telling a lie, and then He reveals to you the benefits of telling the truth.  You then recognize that you benefit when you chose to follow what God has revealed to you, and that leads to a change in your behavior .. translated:  Spiritual Growth!  John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth:

God has written all that one would ever need or want to know in His Holy Word, in His law. Some think there are Ten Commandments, but there are conservatively 490 commandments.  You don't know them all and in your own strength you cannot even keep one.  You depend upon God for your salvation, and now you are realizing that you must depend upon God for your Spiritual Growth.

So doing good things is nice, and keeping Gods law is good, but you can do neither to please God unless these are the results of your dependence upon Him.  You will not impress Him with your works many have tried.

Those whom want to hedge there bets by trying to do so are simply not depending upon God for their salvation.  They are depending upon their own selves, and that is a direct rejection of the payment Jesus Christ made on the cross.

If you are asked by God why should He let you into His heaven, your answer better be Jesus Paid it all, not I walked an isle and spoke some words but I've been doing church work for years and I'm really not a bad person.  For if Jesus didn't pay for your sins then you surely shall.  Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

As far as service to God, it is God's second Gift to you, the first was salvation, the second is His Holy Spirits work in you life to lead you into a deep intimate relationship with God Himself.

The Bible Codes & Gematria

When the bible codes were first reported on I kept an open mind.  I was familiar with the scripture related to the codes in Daniel 12:4 Where God says:

But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

Then I read the book which made this all popular.  I was quite impressed with the words Torah being found throughout the Torah in a logical sequence.  This along with some other information convinced me that the Bible codes really do exist.

One of the more important of these are the names and orthodoxy of those whom have sought out this information.  All Jews, all very strong believers;  the last of which is Eliyahu Rips, an Israeli mathematician, who prayed diligently to the Lord God of Israel to reveal to him this information.  And I believe that the Holy Spirit did reveal to him many things. Some of those he shared with us, but most of it he didn't.

The result of making this all public accomplished two things.  One, it alerted everyone who is Jewish to the possibility that the code exists, and two, it brought on mass distribution of the Torah and Bible code software. ... Even an English to Hebrew translator!  Unfortunately, most have failed to consider a number of things with respect to their attempts to forecast the future via the bible codes.

The most important of these I would say has to do with the surface text of the scripture.

1 Corinthians 2:11-14 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him?  even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.  Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit, which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.  But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

In other words, we cannot know what the Bible says unless the Holy Spirit reveals it's meanings to us.  Remember, Eliyahu Rips, He prayed earnestly!  And He believes that God Himself revealed these things to him.  Another thing is to whom is this directed?  Whom has it been revealed and at what time?  Well,  Daniel 12:4 "seal the book, even to the time of the end." The end? The tribulation is in the end, and during the tribulation God's focus is on the Jews.

So, God has sealed this up until the tribulation ... for Jews who are led of God's Holy spirit can know things when?  When He wants them to know what He wants them to know.

Now let's take a look at the Bible code interpreters that we see on the net every day.  First of all, most are not Jews!  And some who are do not know the Lord.  I have rarely heard of anyone praying to God and looking to Him for revelation, but see that most use the codes in the place of God.  I personally think since God has revealed this for the Jews going through the tribulation that if one prayed to Him then He would reveal this fact to them.

Probably the most significant basis for not trusting the predictions of those whom base their findings on the Bible codes is their record of being 100% wrong.  Remember, this is "the voice of sanity."  To be honest with you, if someone said it was raining outside and I found it wasn't, I'd be annoyed, if they did it again, I'd be suspicious, but if every time they told me something I found out they were wrong, then I would never listen to them again.  What they have taught me is that they will be wrong.

Another matter is that nearly NONE of those whom make these predictions know Hebrew at all!  Most go through the english translator program which is crude at best.  The wilder ones have applied their methods to the New Testament which is written in Greek, however, their successes are the same, 100% failure rate.

Gematria, a fascinating word which describes the study of numbers.  Regardless of what you might have been told on the net, it really didn't start until Christ was born.  Each Hebrew letter has a numeric value.  The idea in gematria is to create some meaning from manipulating these numbers.  For instance, one might add up the letters to a name or word, and then the claim is that the result means something, or points to a date.

Those whom study gematria have come up with a number of dates for the rapture, all gone now, but not to worry, they will have more tomorrow.  There are many numbering systems.  I have seen some assign their own numbers to letters in the English language.  Others use the ASCII codes, which by the way developed out of the teletype days.  Regardless of the technical details and their are many many technical details, the fact remains that the most significant basis for not trusting the predictions of those whom base their findings on the Gematria is their record of being 100% wrong.

I'm no rocket scientist, but I'm not going to be bamboozled by someone touting a very complex methodology, of determining the future which has never been right!  As in not right once EVER!

My conclusions:  Regardless of what method one uses to predict future events if they are 100% wrong every time then their is something wrong with their method or source.  The Bible Code and Gematria interpreters have been wrong every time consistently.  They have in fact NEVER been right.  This would indicate to anyone sane to run not walk away from those whom continue to use these methods to predict the future.

Miracles and Prophecy

Do miracles and prophecy exist?  The answer is unequivocally YES!  Absolutely, without question, not a doubt in my mind, and there is verifiable proof.

Although there are many names and descriptions for the sources of miracles and prophecy, they all have their roots in one of just two sources.  God is one, and satan is the other.  God knows this is quite confusing for us, so He gave us a warning, telling us to test the sources of miracle and prophecy so that we will know the true source.

Miraculous healings have been done, I imagine, as far back as recorded history.  Even today in nearly every country of the world it exists.  Claims even that some have been raised from the dead in areas of the world.

The source of most of these is satan.  Those involved don't even try to hide it much, some not at all.  Some call it shamanism, others Indian medicine man stuff, voodoo, witchcraft, sorcery, white witchcraft, and a zillion other names.  One thing that these all have in common is that NONE of them claim to do their healings through the power of Jesus Christ, or the Holy Spirit. So, we can easily see these are NOT of God.  So their source is satanic.

1 John 4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist...

So with respect to healings, we first need to look at this particular verse above to see if our source  confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh,  if it does not, then we know already that it is NOT of God. So we need check no further.

But if every spirit jumped up and immediately revealed its source, or all the good ones wore white hats, and all the bad ones wore black hats, (like it used to be on the old westerns on TV), then it would be so easy for us.  Unfortunately, those from satanic sources want to deceive us, and they do so by clever imitation.

You might remember Eve in the garden, satan didn't say God was a liar, he said he wanted to "clarify" what God had said;  therefore Eve was deceived by one whose purpose was, and still is, deception, and Eve was not a dumb blonde so to speak.  I bet she was pretty smart.  The devil was just clever, and she had not been to new York yet, ... er.. was innocent.

So let's take a look at some clever deceptions.  Have you ever seen on TV some evangelist go on an on about repentance and you changing your lifestyle and doing it all on your own power while never once mentioning dependence upon Jesus Christ?  Or how about the one who says Jesus, Jesus, Jesus!  All the time but never speaks of who Jesus really is or why He came?  These are deceptions.

James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

The quick shortcut to understanding is this:

God's way
satan's Way
Dependence upon Jesus Christ for Salvation, His blood sacrifice paid for your sins. Dependence upon self, through works or keeping the law. (denies the atonement)
Dependence upon Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit for service to God Dependence upon self or claim of loss of salvation, and the building up of pride which exalts itself against God (Against God)
Peace through the Holy Spirit's assurances of salvation, promotes faith Fear with dark warnings using fear as a motivator, ever working harder and harder yet never gaining. (faith destroyer)
Revelation of God's Word the Bible, which reveals the attributes of God and His love for you Confusion in reading God's Word, and teaching of dependence upon other spirits which claim to be of God but aren't. (Moves the person away from God)

If the teaching revolves around Jesus Christ, and teaches dependence upon him, exalts Him, praises Him, then it is of God, if not then it is not.

Jesus Christ made a point with each of His healings.  Let me mention something us gentiles forget quite frequently,  "But he (Jesus) answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.  Matthew 15:24  Jesus only healed one gentile that I recall in scripture, and it was in this passage.

Most of the time the point was to increase faith.  But a real clue for us today is that of ALL the people He healed, and of ALL the people that were healed in Biblical history, they were all healed within the hour.  I can't recall a single one that took longer.  Some might mention Lazarus but remember, once Jesus got there, the raising from the dead took moments.

So let's look at healing today.  Certainly when we go to the hospital, and others pray for us, we most of the time are healed, but this is not miraculous healing.  It is the healing that God placed into our bodies to automatically heal itself.  The doctors don't heal;  just ask them, they provide the conditions that are the best for your body to heal itself.

What about faith!  Ok, let's talk about faith.  Some have claimed that if one has faith then God will heal you EVERY TIME and He doesn't have a choice.  Well, let's look at this.  I can have faith that their is no God, but does that mean that just because I believe it, that God disappears .. poof!  He's gone, out of here?

I think not.  So it is not what you convince yourself of is truth that makes it true.  Let's take into account the record.  I hate to bring this up, but the facts are, that many whom sincerely believe that God heals everyone whom believes, are NOT healed when they get sick.  That is to say they are not miraculously healed.  Some are healed, in and out of hospitals, in days, months, even years but never "within the hour."  Actually, I should say nearly never.  I wouldn't say that God never miraculously heals, but that compared to how often it is claimed to be miraculous, it is rare.

Also, the purpose of miraculous healing is what?  Should glorify whom?  Most of those whom make a big deal of "laying on hands" promote themselves, and worship the power, not the giver of the power.  They whip the crowd into an emotional frenzy but wait!  God doesn't want you to be out of control, He has given you the power of a sound mind.  2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Unfortunately, the only scripture that I have read which gives us hope for Godly healing is nearly never used because of a lack of faith.  That scripture directs the following:  James 5:14-15 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:   And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

Let me point out that the faith here is not on the part of the one desiring healing, but on the Elders of the church.  This is a complete reversal of what modern day healers do and say.  This faith is in whom?  The Lord, and the elders here would certainly ask the afflicted about their sins if that is the problem.  But where are the crowds?  They are not there ... while it doesn't specifically say I get the impression that this is done privately at the location where the sick person is.

The glory here is not for man, but for God.  So, an important clue here is that when God gets the glory, when you are depending upon Him, and NOTHING else!  By His mercy He may heal you.

The same precepts that apply to healings apply to prophecy, but prophecy is spoken of specifically.  First let me recall that their are two sources of all prophecy, either satan or God.  Prophecy is a little easier to discern because of the record of those claiming to prophesy.  Deuteronomy 18:20-22 But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak ... even that prophet shall die.  And if thou say in thine heart, how shall we know the word, which the LORD hath not spoken?  When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken ..."  [If we killed the false prophets as commanded, then we wouldn't have a problem, the bad ones would be dead and one would be doubly sure that God had spoke to them before claiming it]

The requirement of a prophet is that they be 100% accurate, if they prophesy ONCE, and it not come to pass, then they do not speak for God.  This precludes a number of really famous guys, nostradamos, edgar cayce, gordon michael scallion, timothy snodgrass, and many many others who made prophecies claiming they came from God and they FAILED.  Notice they don't have to fail more than once.

So, God's test of a true prophet is 100% accuracy.  The problem with some of these modern day prophets is that many of them are really nice guys.  How does one who is timid hold one of these guys accountable for their failures?  The answer is they are too afraid to, and these guys are very intimidating.  They quote often "Touch not the Lord's anointed!" well, that statement is true, but they have just proven by God's Word that THEY ARE NOT THE LORD'S ANOINTED!  So touch all you want, in Old Testament times they'd have been stoned to death on their first failure, and all their writings burned!

Another look at these guys is, they never give the glory and honor to whom?, the Lord Jesus Christ.  They hold instead, themselves up as God, and take the place of God.  They never speak of God's mercy or dependence upon God, but always speak of dependence upon self.  They use fear as a weapon and tool of control.  This is against what the REAL Holy Spirit's job is, He promotes faith not fear, He wants to set you free, not enslave you.

They build up their own pride and image which is against God.  They lead others away from the Bible, but the Holy Spirit leads one toward the Bible.  They want you to follow them, not read the Bible.  They discredit God and the Bible by their failed prophecies.  Now these guys are bad but it shows that God guards His Word.

Now lets look are those who are much worse for a minute:  Deuteronomy 13:1-5 If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder, And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them; ... Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams:  And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death;

satan has power, but God is ALL powerful.  So, God allows satan to prophesy but under conditions, and one of those is that if he prophesies promoting other gods, little g, then God may allow it, but God specifically speaks to us a warning about this very thing in the passage above.

The problem, as I have heard it well stated, is that we are not to follow miracles, dreams and visions, but the Lord.  And false prophets should not deceive us because God gave us the test, 100% accurate.  And we should not be fooled by miracles, when they are prophesied, or done by those whom would have us follow other gods.

Let me mention that I believe that there is no longer a need for Church age prophecy because we have the Bible in it's completed form.  The record shows a long list of self-proclaimed prophets from within the church that all have a success rate less than 100%.  From our discussion and the written Word of God this ought to tell you something.

The Holy spirit has not, can not, and will, not prophesy, anything that is against the Word of God.  For:
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  You see now why God, the Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ are one, and the Word is also God. Jesus said: Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

Will men ever prophesy again?  I can't say, but I believe that during the tribulation they will, but we are not in the tribulation ... yet!

Angels & demons

This part is just in the making, come back later.
